What is the difference between cosmetic tattooing and standard body tattooing?

Feather Touch, also known as feathering or microblading, is a process where pigment is infused into the skin to simulate the appearance of natural hairs. This technique is performed with a hand tool and a tiny blade, etching into the skin to create hair-like strokes to mimic natural hair, creating a fuller, more symmetrical brow that complements your face shape.

Cosmetic tattooing enhances your natural features. It is soft and subtle and it is meant to be a natural-looking enhancement. Body tattoos use ink, whereas cosmetic tattoo procedures involve pigments only. These pigments gently fade over time.

Fading is to be expected, and it allows your artist to make changes to the colour and shape of your brows. Your natural colouration and facial shape changes naturally as you age, as do brow trends. By using pigments instead of ink, we have a greater degree of flexibility.

Does cosmetic tattooing hurt?

Pain threshold levels vary from person to person, and every effort is made to ensure you remain comfortable for the entirety of the procedure.

A highly effective topical anaesthetic cream and gel are used for numbing before and during your microblading procedure. Having this microblading performed during your menstrual cycle may increase discomfort during your procedure.

How long does cosmetic tattooing last?

Cosmetic tattoo treatments are considered semi-permanent and will not wash off. They will fade over time and may need to be refreshed every 1-2 years, sometimes more frequently if you have very oily skin. The frequency of sessions required depends on a number of factors, including the pigment colour used (lighter colours fade faster), lifestyle (particularly sun exposure), and if any chemical peels come into contact with treated areas.

Multiple sessions are normal for cosmetic tattoo procedures. Each new procedure requires a minimum of 2 visits. Your second session is booked 6 weeks after your initial appointment.

How will my cosmetic tattoo look in the future?

During your appointment, I analyse your skin’s undertone to anticipate how pigment colours will fade in the future. Pigments are mixed on the day to ensure colour blends well with your existing eyebrow and hair colour.

The majority of our clients’ cosmetic tattoos stay true to colour and lighten naturally over time. Very occasionally, some colours may fade to different tones according to your individual response to the pigments (sometimes caused by lifestyle or even iron deficiencies).

At your next appointment, we assess how your body has responded to the initial colour. We use special formula alteration to correct the colour and to prevent further colour change.

What is Feather Touch?

Feather Touch, feathering or microblading is a process when pigment is infused into the skin to simulate the appearance on natural hairs. This technique is done with a hand tool and a tiny blade that’s etched into the skin to create hair like strokes mimic natural hair to create a fuller more symmetrical brow that compliments your face shape.

Feather Touch is meant to be a natural and subtle enhancement to create fuller brows.

This treatment is best suited to normal/dry healthy skin. Oily skin or ageing/thin skin is not suited for Feather Touch. Misting would be a better option.

What is misting?

This is a brow technique is a softer alternative to feathering. This technique is done using a machine with a very fine needle that creates an airbrushed appearance unlike the old block tattooing you may have seen in the past. This technique is suited for clients who like an ombre, powdery or softly pencilled in look, creating a shadow behind your brow in a shape that is complementary to your face shape.

The healed results are similar to ‘stained skin’ look after a brow sculpt.

This technique is suited for those wanting to cover old brow tattoo.

This treatment is suitable for oily and sensitised skin.

Pigment choices are for the fairest of blondes to the darkest of browns.

What is a lash lift?

A lash lift is a treatment that lifts the lashes from the roots, creating a more open, youthful eye. The treatment involves applying a silicone pad to the eyelid, then adhering your lashes to the silicone pad. The next step is applying a curling solution to the root of the lashes, then a setting solution to hold your lashes in place. After the removal, we tint your lashes in a rich black to create fullness and length.

Beware: you may get addicted to the natural look you get with a lash lift!

What if I have short lashes?

If you have really short lashes, I recommend using Eyenvy for 2-3 months to generate length then coming in for a Lash Lift. Eyenvy sold in clinic.

What is Lip Blushing?

Gone are the days when you have a lip line tattooed around your lips. Lip Blush is the modern and sophisticated look for a subtle hint of colour evenly spread across your lips. It does not make lips fuller as injections would, but they will look slightly bigger as we enhance your vermillion border.

You will need to exfoliate daily and moistrurize lips 1 week prior to appointment.

What if I’ve had cold sores before?

If you have experienced cold sores in the past, you will need to be on valtrex, lysine or a cold sore preventative before your appointment as this will reduce the likelihood of cold sores.

What is Brow Lamination?

Brow lamination is a technique used on the brows to create voluminous, full, feathery brows that are defined and yet natural looking. The treatment restructures the brow hairs to keep them in a desired shape for up to 6 weeks,

Who CAN’T have these procedures?

You can’t have cosmetic tattooing if you:

Are Pregnant/breastfeeding

Are currently using accutane or have used accutane within the past year

Have a freshly tanned/sunburned face

Are on blood thinning medications or strong antibiotics

Are currently undergoing cancer treatment unless you have a letter from your dr that you are able to have semi permanent makeup.

*please note healing time might be longer than normal and your results may vary.

What do I need to do AFTER my cosmetic tattooing treatment?

What NOT to do…

You need to stay clear of the below for up to 10 days to ensure your brows fully heal:

No cleansers on your brows. Carefully wash around the tattooed area.

No makeup on the brow area.

No swimming

No spas

No saunas

No heaving sweating

No direct water

No touching them with your fingers

What if I have itchy eyebrows?

This might happen while your brows are healing. If this does occur and its really uncomfortable for you, apply a small amount Bepanthen with a clean cotton tip.

What does it mean if my skin is peeling around the area of my cosmetic tattooing?

This is normal, it doesn’t happen to everyone but is a natural part of the body’s healing process.

I feel a little bruised, what does this mean?

It’s completely normal to feel a little bruised the same day as your procedure. This feeling will subside usually within 24 hrs.

My brows look so dark! What do I do?

The day following your treatment, you may be surprised at dark your brows have become overnight. Don’t fret! This is completely normal.

The process over the next 2 weeks is dynamic. Your new brows will become quite dark and then they will fade up to 40%.

For some clients, your new brows will be perfect. For others, they may be too light or require touch ups. This is why we have the ‘Perfecting’ Session 6 – 8 weeks after your initial treatment.

When do I need a touch up?

A touch up is strongly advised every year.

Do I need an initial consultation for Brow Sculpt?

No, this is a straightforward and regular service I provide to my clients. A Brow Sculpt is complementary when having an Initial Consult regarding a cosmetic tattooing service.

Do I need a consultation before semi-permanent makeup?

Yes, it’s well worth having a consultation prior to booking in for a Feather Touch, Misting or Lip Blush. After explaining the whole process and answering any questions you may have, I then draw a shape that suits you and we choose your pigment colour.

For eyebrow consultations, a brow sculpt is also included in your consultation appointment.

If you are coming in for a Lip Blush consultation, please bring along your favourite lipstick/lipgloss shades so I can do my best to colour match with my pigments.

I've had my brows tattooed before. Can you go over them?

We can absolutely assist you here. You will require an initial consultation if you have had previous semi permanent makeup done elsewhere. We will take you through all the options available to you.
